Position Paper 3- Higher Education
Texas A&M University
Higher education is a topic that I have always been interested in, from watching older family members achieve Master's and Doctorate degrees to making my decision on where I wanted to attend for my Bachelor's. Even though I decided to stick with a smaller university, I have gotten to know several new friends who attend larger universities in Texas. Of all of the universities that I gotten to know more about, Texas A&M is the one that everyone in East Texas seems to swear by.
Texas A&M University is one of the largest universities in the United States, competing with universities like University of Central Florida and Arizona State for the highest enrollment numbers in the nation. People who aren't familiar with the programs at Texas A&M most likely know A&M's reputation in football. As a member of the South Eastern Conference (SEC), A&M has remained undefeated throughout the 2025 season.
The student body of Texas A&M has school spirit that is truly unmatched. They have several traditions surrounding regular university activities as well as traditions that are unique to the experience of Texas A&M. One of the most well known football traditions is referring to the university as The Home of the Twelfth Man. This functions as a recognizable slogan while also highlighting how the entire student body gathers together during the games to support the players on the field.
Athletics is definitely what many people remember Texas A&M for, but the university utilizes their marketing department to support the other areas of the school as well. Texas A&M has a wide social media presence, being active on YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. Each platform hosts content that is curated to a different audience within the Texas A&M community. The X and Facebook accounts post images and short videos that place an emphasis on the alumni network and parts of the university that will appeal to parents. For example, Texas A&M recently posted a guide to Thanksgiving leftovers to help out curious families while still bringing attention to itself.
As soon as your Thanksgiving feast hits the table, the clock starts ticking — and not for Black Friday deals. It’s about food safety.@txextension experts are sharing how to keep your holiday leftovers safe, delicious, and ready for round two (or three).

Since many Instagram users are included in younger generations like Gen Z, Texas A&M's Instagram account features posts, reels, and stories that show what the school has to offer while also including content showing what different students are up to throughout their school years.
Texas A&M utilizes LinkedIn and YouTube to demonstrate the university's academic programs as well as the strides the school has taken in research. From hosting guest speakers to discussing traditions and service opportunities in the local community, A&M's YouTube page highlights some of the newest achievements that the university has claimed.
The LinkedIn page associated with Texas A&M functions as a reliable way to stay connected to alumni and provide individuals to discover the university in terms of securing a career boosting position. There are also separate pages set aside for the Mays School of Business and College of Engineering, allowing students to stay up to date with their individual fields while at school.
Texas A&M also hosts a remarkable alumni network. The Aggie Network includes resources for future endeavors past graduation, and many of the social media pages consistently share content that boosts awareness of high-achieving students and alumni.

Even though Texas A&M's culture and athletics are what make other schools take notice, A&M also has excellent academic programs. Texas A&M provides 140 undergraduate degrees and 270 graduate degrees and certificates. These degrees are spread across 16 different schools within the main university. The university does not lose an opportunity to boast about the many study abroad opportunities that it provides, with students in over 100 countries.

Although Texas A&M often strives to set itself apart from other universities, it uses one of its most beloved mascots as a way to connect to other student bodies. Reveille X, also known as the "First Lady of TAMU" or "Miss Rev", is the current representative of A&M. Each year, a sophomore from the Corps of Cadets is chosen to take care of the Rough Collie.

Each Reveille is truly beloved on campus, with some students considering it to be an honor to even hold a door open for her and her caretaker. She even has her own Instagram page! When Reveille travels to other universities for football games, she is sure to get a picture with rival mascots. It's always fun to see athletic mascots interact with each other, and each meeting fosters a sense of friendliness amongst the fierce competitive environment of the football season.
As someone who is a native Arkansas and did not grow up in intense Texas A&M culture of East Texas, I have to admit that this university's widespread marketing and overall culture is extremely appealing. They truly have a place for every student, from people who enjoy getting invested in athletics to those searching for academic opportunities beyond a bachelor's degree. As I plan my degree plans beyond my time at SAU, I am definitely going to keep Texas A&M in mind.
